Three years ago, my life changed rather dramatically when my husband, Randy and I found our dream home nestled at the base of Colorado’s majestic Ten Mile Range, just north of Breckenridge. Seeking a small plot of land to build a future second home, we instead discovered an 1898 historic house that had been built by a Colorado gold baron as a gift for his bride. He named it Swan’s Nest.
Randy, our two sons, and I have always lived as a family in Texas, except for an all-too-brief stint in Paris when the boys were little. Although our main residence remains in Texas, and this blog will sometimes be written from there, Randy and I had talked since the days we were dating of one day moving to Colorado. We spent our honeymoon in Summit County, Colorado, just 11 miles from the home we would one day purchase.
This is the story of our lives at Swan’s Nest. As I share with you the breathtaking, ever-changing beauty of the mountains and forests surrounding our home, I’ll also share stories of recipes I’m developing, decorating projects, books I’m writing, the filming of my Thanksgiving special for American Public Television, A Home for Christy Rost: Thanksgiving that’s on PBS and CREATE TV stations nationwide this November, and my upcoming national television series that’s currently in pre-production, At Home with Christy Rost. You’ll also hear aboutlandscaping projects, the new kitchen addition that’s still a work-in-progress, highlights of the immense restoration Swan’s Nest has undergone, stories of all the things that still need repair (we’re opening a bottle of bubbly the day Swan’s Nest gets all its door knobs!), and our frequent gatherings with family and friends.
Swan’s Nest has a long history of hospitality, and this is a tradition Randy and I are delighted to continue. You’ll meet our neighbors and friends as they gather at Swan’s Nest, and you’ll hear a lot about food and wine, because cooking and entertaining are what I do, and gathering around the table with family and friends as we create special memories is one of my greatest joys. It’s an ongoing Celebration of Home and Family, and I look forward to sharing this celebration with all of you in the coming months and years.
